A peaceful afternoon finds a Ute mother telling her
children a story. Through her stories, the traditions and
rich legacies of her ancestors will be carried to the next
generation. The Ute people are said to be an important
division of the Shoshoni, closely related to the Paiutes
and Bannock Indians. They were strong, owned horses and
were a warlike people.—Barbara Sullivan
